President's Message by Don RimaGreetings...WOW what a turnout of members! We had a full house for Mark Borash’s V5R3 announcement in May and there were even folks hanging around asking questions after I left and hit the Beltway to find my way home. Thanks again to Mark for his super presentation. Well, I’m hoping you folks all are having a great summer break and enjoying the fun in the sun. Here at WAM we’ve been busy planning the fall JAM, Seminar and meeting schedules - and I know you won’t be disappointed. Starting in September, we’re having a very timely one day seminar with IBM’s Pat Botz on the latest in OS/400(i5/OS) security. I’ll have details on the seminars page in a few, but the dates/venues will be: Richmond on September 13, College Park/DC on September 14, and up in Philly on September 16. For those of you that don’t know Pat, he’s the security architect for the eServer iSeries line and is a COMMON regular from the Rochester Lab. This is the chance to learn the insides and outs of OS/400 Security from the architect. You won’t want to miss this. If you want to register before I get the letter on the web, contact KB Soni at kbsoni@aol.com for all the details. Pat will also be doing our evening WAM meeting in September on the new Single Sign on functionality. This is becoming a very hot topic and one you should be familier with as it allows you to sign on once to your desktop and be authenticated throughout your network... This is really timely in a hetergenous server (Windows/linux/OS400/etc) environment! Yeah, no more having to remember as many passwords as you have systems! He’ll be going over what it is, how it works and how to get it running at the WAM meeting on September 14. So mark your calendar’s now. JAM, well, we’ve done our best and frankly, this is a super loaded day. All the details are on the JAM web page along with the hyper link to get registered today. Checkout: www.wash-midrange.org/jam.html This is one tech conference you won’t want to miss and it’s right in your back yard on October 29. Where else besides the JAM will you find sessions on OS/400 systems management, WebSphere Applications Server, linux and RPG programming techniques? This is also the first time a local user group has done a cross platform conference with AIXL sessions and I imagine you’ll find a lot of folks you know from that realm as well. So, come to the JAM, renew old friendships, make some new ones and get ready to hear the latest in eServer technology. Speaking of October, our October 12th meeting is "Life after V5R3" with Carson Soule. This is always a full house and very timely information. This will probably be a high interest meeting, so please get your RSVP’s in early... preferably today. See you at WAM on September 14th. Register early and bring a friend! September 14th MeetingOS/400 Single Sign On SecurityPresented By IBM’s Pat Botz from Rochester Pat will be presenting the new Single Sign On security architecture and how to implement it on your OS/400(i5/OS) systems. With SSO you don’t need to sign on to each individual system once you’re authenticated. It’s really a timely resource tool that is not only becoming very popular but in increased demand.
