President's Message By Don Rima

Greetings one and all...

I hope everyone enjoyed a really good summer! It’s finally beginning to cool off a bit and I’m starting to pick the last of the veggies in the garden that the deer and gophers haven’t gotten already.

September is a exciting and busy month for WAM’ers!

We’re REALLY happy to have Susan Gantner here for not only a full day on The Best Ways to Develop with ILE & RPG on OS/400 on the 16th in Richmond and 17th in College Park, but also to do a great evening session on XML programming for iSeries and OS/400 for WAM on the 17th. Those of you that have ever been to Susan’s presentations know you’re in for a packed and fun day of good useful information. Registrations are still being accepted for the daytime seminar in both Richmond and College Park.

In October we will be hearing from the other half of the Gantner/Paris duo when Jon Paris comes to town. Jon’s Seminar on OS/400 RPG: It’s Not Just for Green Screens Anymore will cover programming for a GUI interface in a OS/400 environment. Jon’s also going to be doing our WAM meeting in October.

JAM 2002 is going to be a SUPER PACKED day of the latest and greatest in the OS/400 world. Check the website and get your reservations in early to make sure that you get a seat.

Hope to see all of you folks at the seminar and meeting… Again, please register EARLY. We don’t want anyone to be left or to go hungry and not have a place to sit.

See you on the 17th.

XML for iSeries Programmers with Susan Gantner

XML, or Extensible Markup Language, provides a powerful way to describe the data passed between applications. Based on HTML, XML is quickly becoming a standard data interchange language for business to business applications. Come to this session to learn what XML is, how it can be used in your OS/400 applications and how it will likely affect your applications in the future.

Susan Gantner joined IBM after 10 years of working in application development using both COBOL and RPG. She moved to the AS/400 Competency Center in Rochester in 1991 to specialize in application development and database. After 5 years in Rochester, Susan moved to the Toronto Lab, where she continued her focus on educating programmers in ILE and RPG IV. In 1999, Susan left IBM and is now one of the principles with Partner 400. She speaks to AS/400 programming audiences at technical conferences around the world and holds several speaking awards, including the Jim Sloan Technical Speaker award, and many COMMON Speaker Excellence Awards.
