President's Message By Don Rima

Greetings one and all….

Those that turned out for the Linux meeting and/or for the one day’er on Websphere really had a good time!

This month, we’re meeting a week later than usual so as not to conflict with those members that want to attend the COMMON Conference and Expo in Nashville (www.common.org).

When we get back, we’re going to have a meeting on one of the hottest topics in iSeries land today, LPAR. Our presenter is Russ Popiel. Russ is a Senior Product Specialist for DataMirror an IBM business partner specializing in High Availability Software. He has over 20 years experience on the IBM midrange platform. He is President of the Long Island Systems Users Group and a frequent speaker at Common, and other local user groups. He is the author of the book "RPG Error Handling technique, bulletproofing your applications". He has also written many articles for iSeries and Midrange Computer Magazines. He is an IBM Certified Solutions Expert, an IBM Certified RPGIV Developer, and a member of IBM's certification test writing team. He is also on the IBM Toronto language labs RPG advisory council, and a member of the IBM/JDE competency center advisory team.

Also, Russ’s session on LPAR at COMMON has some extremely high review marks. And, if you’re going to COMMON, come to WAM and catch Russ’s session here and that will free up your time slot in Nashville for a different topic.

Our meeting is titled: LPAR - A Implementation Case Study

This session covers the steps used to size and implement a LPAR machine at a Customer site.

This is a case study of a new 2 way box with 4 Partitions.

Some of the main items we’ll be covering are:

  1. The steps to size the LPAR environment, CPW per LPAR, Interactive CPW per LPAR.
  2. Number of Communication lines, and LAN adapters per LPAR.
  3. Use of LPAR Validation Tool
  4. Planning steps
  5. Implementation steps
  6. Technical Resources
I would expect this to be a full house event, so please make sure you register early to insure that we have a place reserved for you.

See ya on the 23rd.
