President's Message from Peter Maher

Our May meeting will be on Tuesday May 22, 2001 at the Holiday INN College Park and will feature one of our favorites: Carson Soule.

Carson Looks in his Crystal Ball And what does he see now that 5.1 is out?

What does the future hold now that 5.1 is out? First Carson will offer us a very brief review of the V5R1 announcement with the focus on putting the announcement in perspective. Then he will cover the fall plans for tools, WAS and WCS. From there he will offer some of his knowledgeable speculation on next spring's announcement - Power/4 etc. The logical place to go from there is to look at the iSeries application portfolio, development trends, and the impact of Linux and storage and market viability/vitality. We may also find it of interest to reflect on the end of Gerstner's rein, IBM directions, the Informix acquisition... and who knows where else we will go? We can rest assured that we will all be a whole lot more knowledgeable when we leave.

Carson A. Soule is the CEO of Computer Applications Specialists, Inc., a national company providing AS/400, networking, software and services. Carson attended the University of Maryland and has earned Certificates in Computer Programming (CCP), Data Processing (CDP) and Systems Professional (CSP) from the Institute for Certification of Computer Professionals (ICCP). In addition, he is certified by IBM in AS/400 sales, technical support and networking. He has over 25 years of System/3X experience starting as a System/3 programmer and continuing through the System/32/34/36/38 and AS/400. Carson is active in COMMON as a speaker and previously as the AS/400 and System/36 Project Manager as well as being a member of ACM and IEEE Computer Society. He is also a frequent speaker at local and national user groups on midrange computer topics, a technical editor and frequent contributor of articles for News/400.
