President's Message from Peter MaherI think I'm tired of Snow! Now I like snow as much as the next person, as long as the next person is on the beach somewhere warm and we are looking at the pictures of snow. But when I have to live with snow well that is another story! As most of you I'm sure know we were forced to cancel the January meeting due to a snow related problem. Our speaker who is from North Carolina couldn't be here and sends her deepest apologies (none needed). We will try to reschedule Laura at another time. As I told you in last month's newsletter the board and I have been working on this year's schedule. So far I am very excited about the prospects. We will present two or three all day seminars in addition to our ELEVENTH ANNUAL JAM (Dec 1, 2000). We are still conferencing with speakers and trying to get commitments from them. As soon as we will know the word will be up on the web. By the way one of my projects for the very near future is to up-date the look of the web page. So if you have any suggestions send them to me.
February MeetingThis month we are pleased to present Steve Bireley of Renex Corporation. Steve's topic is:Securing your Web to Host Connectivity Many companies are currently evaluating the use of the Internet for corporate wide communications for today’s business applications. The growth of the Internet and the availability of local connections to an Internet Service Provider (ISP) combined with robust security techniques for Authentication and Encryption allow companies to implement this strategy. The benefits are tremendous, saving corporations money with lowered long distance charges and allowing better administration capabilities for deploying and maintaining software on the client PC. This session looks at technologies used to provide Mainframe and AS/400 connectivity securely across the Internet as well as client software administration and deployment. Steve Bireley has over 15 years in the Mainframe and Midrange connectivity industry. Currently Steve is VP of Engineering for Renex Corporation who specializes in the Web to Host market.
